Mycorest 50 - Description

Generic Name: Itraconazole
Brand Name: Mycorest 50
Strength: 50 mg
Form: Capsule / Tablet (depending on the manufacturer)

Uses:

Mycorest 50 is used to treat fungal infections such as:

  • Dermatophytosis (ringworm, athlete’s foot)

  • Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)

  • Candidiasis (yeast infections of the skin, mouth, throat, or vagina)

  • Systemic fungal infections like histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, and aspergillosis (as per doctor’s prescription)

How It Works:

Itraconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This causes the fungal cell walls to weaken, ultimately killing the fungus.

Dosage:

The dosage and duration depend on the type and severity of the infection and must be prescribed by a doctor. It is usually taken once or twice daily with food for better absorption.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Abdominal pain

  • Diarrhea

  • Headache

  • Dizziness

  • Rash

Serious side effects (rare but require immediate attention):

  • Liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine)

  • Heart failure symptoms (shortness of breath, swelling of legs)

  • Severe skin reactions

    Precautions:

    • Not recommended in patients with heart failure unless necessary.

    • Should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems.

    • May interact with other medications—always inform your doctor about all medicines you're taking.

    Storage:

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
