Prikast 10 mg is a prescription medication that contains Montelukast Sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used primarily for the treatment and management of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and exercise-induced bronchospasm. It is especially effective in preventing symptoms caused by allergens, environmental triggers, or exercise by blocking the action of leukotrienes—chemical substances in the body that contribute to inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus production.
Prikast 10 mg is used in the management and prevention of:
Chronic asthma in adults and adolescents (≥15 years)
Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
Perennial allergic rhinitis
Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction
Night-time asthma symptoms
Environmental allergy symptoms
Montelukast selectively blocks cysteinyl leukotriene (CysLT1) receptors found in the airways and on other pro-inflammatory cells. These leukotrienes are released during allergic reactions and asthma attacks, leading to airway swelling, constriction, and mucus buildup.
By antagonizing these receptors, Prikast reduces:
Bronchial inflammation
Airway hyperresponsiveness
Mucus secretion
Nasal congestion and sneezing
